s.I.M.A Breaks

(Sensory Integration Module ACCESS)

Many of Pathways Academy’s students receive occupational therapy on an individual basis. The occupational therapist provides training to all school staff and consultation regarding any student as needed. Direct services can be provided both outside of and within the classroom. Pathways Academy utilizes an eclectic approach that is “whole student” centered; combining sensory, learning, self-regulation, and functional skills approaches. All staff work together with OT guidance to provide a sensory friendly environment for the students, as a foundation to develop new skills. Each student has regular Sensory Integration breaks built into his or her day to engage in activities appropriate for their alert state; this helps students build a foundation for success throughout the school day.
